I do not think good photographs come only from luck.
There is a word in street photography culture — the decisive moment. But I have been thinking about the role of chance in that equation. Not luck in the passive sense, but the kind of openness that allows unexpected things to enter your frame.
The best photographs I have ever made were not planned. They were prepared for. Preparation means knowing your camera, knowing your light, knowing the neighbourhood well enough that when something extraordinary happens, your hands already know what to do.
